Meet Dr. Loka Thangamathesvaran
Ophthalmology
Dr. Thangamathesvaran is a board-certified ophthalmologist and retina specialist. She was born in India and grew up in Singapore before moving to the US at the age of 7. She was selected for the 7-year combined BA/MD program at Rutgers University and graduated summa cum laude. She was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honors society in medical school and graduated at the top of her class. She completed her ophthalmology residency and vitreoretinal fellowship at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute.
Dr. Thangamathesvaran has authored numerous publications in top peer-reviewed journals including, Retina and JAMA Ophthalmology. She has presented her work on diabetic retinopathy, intravitreal injections, and sickle cell retinopathy at numerous conferences. Her superlative care for patients during residency earned her the Morton and Myrna Goldberg Prize. She later received the Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship, a grant awarded to only a select number of fellows each year to help pursue excellence in patient care, education, and research.
Dr. Thangamathesvaran is committed to providing exemplary patient care. She strives to take care of every patient with the compassion and detail she would wish for her family members. She works with her patients to help them better understand their retinal conditions and collaborate with them to create a holistic management plan.
When she’s not taking care of patients, Dr. Thangamathesvaran enjoys spending time with her husband, Reith, partaking in culinary adventures and exploring the beautiful nature of the Pacific Northwest.
